To be honest I didn't think of those sections as recommendations, just some kind of advertising or defacto part of a streaming music app.Īnd everything but trending playlists and, popular playlists/Tidal Rising/charts which are actually just a small part of the Home page. I don't register the general static recommendations on either service, there wouldn't be anything on Spotify I'd like better. It takes effort to be this shit of a company. And then when someone uploaded a few files to Tidal to test MQA's claims they proceeded to delete the guy's account and then make claims that could no longer be verified (since they deleted the test files). Then there's the MQA controversy which they have actively pushed MQA as being lossless on behalf of the MQA association, they claim they are untouched masters, have been caught taking normal run of the mill albums and upsampling them, very publicly had artists claim that MQA masters are not original masters (and Neil Young famously ended his spat with Tidal by pulling all of the albums which were put up in MQA form from it, which is embarrassing since he was one of Tidal's biggest original proponents). They actively control access to public groups with questions on what people's takes are on current controversies turning those groups into echo chambers. They will actively ban people on their forums who say anything critical of them including long time users. They are highly critical of any kind of criticism. Hilariously they tried to use an international treaty between the EU and Norway to get the subsidiary in Poland to force arbitration with the Norwegian government to make it all go away (first known application of the law and not at all what the law was for). There's an ongoing criminal investigation into them in Norway for artificially inflating the numbers of Beyonce and Kanye West among others to the tune of 100 million fake plays effectively stealing from smaller artists and giving JayZ's bro's a fat royalty payout. They are being investigated for the rate at which they claim to pay their artists vs what they actually pay. Need music? Try /r/audiophilemusicĪ few things.
