Originally produced in 8x50R caliber, in 1924 some of M95 rifles were converted to the German 7.92×57 Mauser (also known as 8×57 Mauser) ammunition. I’v been reloading for maybe a year now and at some point I’m going to try to load some 8x50. I was thoroughly embarrassed at the time but at least I gave the guy selling it to me a good laugh. Turns out it’s a bitch and a half to get the bolt back in so I ended up buying the rifle in two pieces. Humorously when I went to see the guy to buy it I pulled the bolt out thinking I was smart to check the bore condition. Even back then I was hoping it was the OG long rifle in 8x50 when my dad mentioned his friend had “ an old Steyr rifle” for sale even though I knew I wouldn’t get to shoot it much.
